Wyoming Area has undergone many changes with its girls swimming team.

“We lost a lot of seniors last year,” third-year coach Natalie Carr said.

Junior Olivia Bugelholl leads the short list of returnees as the Warriors try to find a way to improve on last season’s 3-9 finish in the Wyoming Valley Conference. The team placed 13th out of 17 in the District 2 Class 2A girls championship.

Lydia Bugelholl, Olivia’s senior sister, returns to the sport after not competing last season.

Leah Moore is also back.

“She did not swim the last two years because of injuries in other sports,” Carr said. “I’m happy to see her back.”

Hannah Hinkle returns for her third season with the team.

Mackenzie Pegg and Sydni Johnson, two of the more promising newcomers on last year’s team, return along with Marianna McHugh and Mackenzie Davidson.

Carr expects to compete with a roster of a little more than 20 swimmers, which will help in scoring points against teams that have less depth to fill all the events.

The Warriors have some changes at their pool and hope to have more on the way.

“We did get new starting blocks at our pool, which is nice because we did have some issues at the end of last season,” Carr said.

A new scoreboard is another possibility to help eliminate some problems that also were an issue at home meets.
