WILKES-BARRE — Police took a man into custody Wednesday after he ran barefoot through snow and brush from where a car window was shot out approximately a quarter mile away on Kidder Street.

Craig Reiss, 22, of Pittston, was charged with one felony count each of aggravated assault and carrying a gun without a license after he was was caught on Wilkes-Barre Boulevard around 3:30 p.m., police said.

According to authorities:

A woman struck Reiss in the face as the two of them were dropping off their roommate at Denny’s restaurant. Reiss then punched the woman in the face and began choking her. He then exited the vehicle and fired a round from a gun through the rear window.

Reiss then ran westbound from Denny’s through the woods. Police found him attempting to hitch a ride from passing motorists on Wilkes-Barre Boulevard.

A witness told a Times Leader reporter shots were fired around 3:15 p.m. on Kidder Street near the Denny’s. The witness who asked not to be identified said he was outside the eatery and heard “just a couple of pops.”

Reiss was sent to Luzerne County’s lockup for lack of $500,000 bail after an arraignment. He is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing at 10 a.m. March 30.
