Summer hours begin May 27

PITTSTON —The library announces the following hours for the summer season.

• Mondays and Thursdays — 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.

• Tuesdays and Fridays — 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

• Saturdays — 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Grown Up and Me concludes its current session on Monday, May 29. Children ages 18-months to 5 can bring their adult to the library for a fun story, craft and free play from 6 to 6:45 p.m. Monday, evenings.

Tales on Tuesday with Miss Kristen concludes its current session on Tuesday, May 30. This event is held every Tuesday and features age appropriate stories, songs, activities and free play for infants, toddlers and pre-school aged children. The program is as follows:

• Books and Babies — 9:30 a.m. for ages newborn to 18-months

• Terrific Twos — 10:30 a.m. for ages 18-months to 3

• Preschool Pals — 11:30 a.m for ages 3 to 5.

Call the library to register.

The library will host a career fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 1. Representatives will be available for on-spot interviews, so bring your resume.

Teen Reading Lounge will meet at 11 a.m. Saturdays, June 3 and 10.

Furry Tails Reading Program will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, June 10.

Book Club will meet at 6 p.m. Monday, June 12 to discuss “Today Will Be Different” by Maria Semple. Copies are limited, but available at the front desk.

LuLaRoe will be held at the library from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 17.

Roaming Readers Book Club meets at 11 a.m. every Tuesday. Participants get the opportunity to walk, talk and listen to an audio book. Each walk lasts 30 minutes. Call the library to register.

Fiber Art Afternoon is held from 1:30 to 3:3o p.m. every Thursday. Participants will bring their own supplies and work on crochet, knitting and felting.

The Friends of the Pittston Memorial Library meet at 6:30 p.m. the fourth Monday of every month. New members are always welcome. For more information call 570-654-9565.

Lego Club meets Mondays from 4 to 5 p.m. Library provides the Legos, but adult supervision is required and participants are required to help clean up.

Volunteer opportunities are available at the library. Opportunities include helping in the library, or with the Friends of the Pittston Memorial Library group. If interested, fill out a volunteer form at the front desk.

Adult Coloring Club meets at 1 p.m. every Friday and on scheduled evenings.

The Crochet Club meets from 10 to 11:45 a.m. every Tuesday. Participants are asked to bring their own supplies including a hook sized I, J, or K yarn.

Board games for all ages are available at the front desk and can be used anytime.

The 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten Program at the library is free and open to all children in the community from birth to kindergarten. The child will receive a bag with an age-appropriate book to keep in his or her collection.

WEST PITTSTON LIBRARY

Become a beekeeper June 5

WEST PITTSTON — Learn to become a beekeeper with Renee Czubowicz from the Lackawanna Backyard Beekers who will explain the benefits of being a beekeeper. This program will be held at 6:30 p.m. Monday, June 5.

Back by popular demand, author and historian Boyd A. Hitchner will discuss “The Hitchner Buscuit Company” beginning at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 10. Hitchner will share the history of the bakery, stories of life in West Pittston during the 100 years it was operational and provide various memorabilia and photographs. Books will be available for puchase.

Local poet Sean Carroll will discuss the baseball inspired poetry “Caught Looking” at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 14. Registration for this program is recommended.

Power Flow Yoga will be held from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays in the basement of Immaculate Conception Church, 605 Luzerne Ave.

Registration for the library’s Summer Reading Program will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, June 23 and will continue throughout the summer. The seven-week reading and craft program keeps kids reading, entertained and continuously learning to help battle the dreaded “Summer Slide.” Children’s programsfor ages 3 to 6 will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. on Fridays throughout the summer. Youth programs for ages 7 to 11 will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Registration for the program is required and you must be a Summer Reading Program participant to sign-up for these activities.

WYOMING FREE LIBRARY

Library closing for Memorial Day

WYOMING — The library will be closed Monday, May 29 for the Memorial Day holiday.

Tea, Tips and Treasures will be resuming and is for children ages 3 and up. Space is limited, and registration is required. Upcoming events include:

• Please Play and Manners — Noon to 1 p.m. Saturday, June 17

• Tropical Island Vacation — 1 to 2 p.m. Friday, July 28

• All About the Library — 1 to 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 25

The library and Wyoming Methodist Church are hosting a Classic Car Day from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 24. Children can display their classic and Matchbox cars at the library and church. Full-size classic cars will be on display in the parking lot. Lunch items and ice cream will be on sale at the church and proceeds benefit the church. Please call the library to register.

Reading help will be available at the library for children in grades 1-4 from 1 to 3 p.m. every Wednesday. Call the library to register.

The Literary Snoops Book Club meets at noon the second Wednesday of east month. Participants are encouraged to bring a bag lunch for the discussion.

LAFLIN PUBLIC LIBRARY

Theatre Workshop is June 2

LAFLIN — Scranton Cultural Center Theatre Director, Miss Camille, will be at the library on Friday, June 2, for a free theatre workshop. Children are invited to join Miss Camille for improv games, storytelling and more. All experience levels welcome. PreK through fourth grade is from 4 to 4:45 p.m. and grades 5 through 12 grade are form 5 to 6 p.m. Call the library to register.
