Woman shares family’s Titanic tale with Tenth Street students

Students in fourth grade at the Tenth Street Elementary School were treated to a guest speaker recently. The students learned about the events of the sinking of the Titanic from Mae Thomas.


Thomas, a child of a Titanic survivor, shared her mother and infant brother’s survival story aboard the Titanic, along with many other stories.


Bill Lewis from the Historical Society also gave a Power Point presentation. Thomas also shared several tragedies that occured, including her uncle who perished.


The Titanic was a British passenger liner that sank on April 15, 1912, in the North Atlantic Ocean after colliding with an iceberg during its maiden voyage from England to New York City. More than 1,500 people died.
