A couple of former Crestwood field hockey stars may be getting together again.

And this time, they may have their eyes on a prize even bigger than the PIAA playoffs.

Hannah Ackers and Ashleigh Thomas, who won the PIAA Class A championship as freshmen and helped Crestwood reach the 2015 state semifinals as high school seniors, were among a group of college players from around the country invited to attend the USA Field Hockey’s 2017 Young Women’s National Championship.

The event will be held from June 12 to 16 at Spooky Nook Sports, the Lancaster training sight for the USA Olympic team. The series serves as a high-level, international structured competition which is a selection avenue to Junior National Camps and the Development Squad Camp.

Also offered invitations to the Young Women’s National Championship were former Wyoming Area standout Bree Bednarski, Holy Redeemer grad Greta Ell and Mallory Lefkowitz from Wyoming Seminary.

Lefkowitz, the WVC’s 2013 Player of the Year, is entering her senior season at Iowa after earning All-Big Ten Honors and started each of the team’s 19 games over the past two seasons.

Ell, who will be a junior at Virginia, scored a goal in the first four games of her college career and made 32 starts for the team over her two collegiate seasons.

Former Wyoming Area great Bednarski played in all 20 games during her freshman season at Michigan this past year, after leading the WVC in scoring during her final two high school seasons. She set the Pennsylvania single-season record by scoring 67 goals as a senior in 2015 for the Warriors.

Ackers played in 18 games as a freshman at Michigan State this past season, while Thomas started all 17 games of her freshman season at Old Dominion this past year.

Players have until June 5 to accept the invitation to participate in the Young Women’s National Championship.
