Pittston Area lost its seventh straight game with a 41-0 decision to Hazleton Area under then first-year coach Lon Hazlet.
The Patriots best drive of the game was its opening one. Steve Stoss carried the ball four times for 24 yards on the opening possession, which got the Patriots to the 41 of Hazleton Area. On the ensuing play, Pittston Area turned the ball over for the first of four times in the first half.
Mark Costello scored all three Pittston Area goals as the Patriots shut out Seton Catholic, 3-0, to sweep Greater Pittston teams.
Costello scored in each of the first three quarters on assists from Jason Newcomb, Rob Yeck and Shukri Rahman. PA outshot Seton Catholic 33-11. Sophomore keeper John Drahus had 21 saves for the Eagles.
Wyoming Area’s girls volleyball team finished the season 8-6 with a win over Pittston Area, 2-1. The game scores were 13-15, 15-7 and 15-10.
The Warriors received dominating performances in the week from Maria Lacina, Sue Waskiewicz and Amy Pastva.
Frank Czerniakowski broke a Pittston Area record with seven PATs in a 49-12 win over Hazleton Area.
Sparked by tailback Carmen Lopresto, the Patriots rushed for more than 300 yards. Lopresto finished with 196 yards no the ground. Lopresto scored three touchdowns, including a 39-yard run. In the second quarter, quarterback Sal Butera hit Mark Justick for a 71-yard touchdown catch and run.
Pittston Area totaled nearly 200 more yards of offense than Hazleton Area.
