LOCK HAVEN — Pittston Area graduate Mia Hopkins, a junior on the Bloomsburg University women’s basketball team, was recently named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division Athlete of the Week.
Hopkins, who spent her first two seasons at Monmouth University, kicked off her Bloomsburg career in style, lifting the Huskies to a come-from-behind, 76-72, victory at New Haven to open the 2015-16 regular season. In her first game in a Bloomsburg uniform, Hopkins posted 24 points to go along with 14 rebounds and six assists to lead both teams in all three categories.
The junior went 8-of-16 from the floor and was a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line in leading the Huskies to the comeback against the Chargers. Bloomsburg trailed by as many as 18 points early in the second quarter and still trailed by double-figures late in the third before rallying for the four-point victory.
Four days later, Hopkins poured in 17 points and added 14 rebounds in a 74-51 win over Goldey-Beacom. Hopkins and the Huskies returned to action on Saturday, Nov. 21 against Seton Hill. On Sunday, Nov. 22, the team travels to California University.
