The Pittston Area ice hockey team earned a 10-1 win over Scranton in the opening game of the 2005-06 season.
Goalie Chris Hannon and defensemen Ray Spiccioli, John Mrgan and Jeff Culp held Scranton to one goal, while eight different Patriots shared the scoring. Phil Semenza had two goals and his sister Paige had an assist.
Also scoring for Pittston Area were: Colin Hart (2 goals, 2 assists), DJ Cook (2 goals, 2 assists), Garrett Pritchyk (2 goals), Matt Benedetto (1 goal) an Charles Morgan (1 goal).
Dunmore’s football team ended Wyoming Area’s dream season, 28-14, in the PIAA District 2 Class AA championship game at Wilkes-Barre Memorial Stadium.
Dunmore QB Sean Gallagher ran for 160 yards n three touchdowns, and passed for a fourth. The Bucks limited Wyoming Area running back Ben Kopka to just 21 yards on eight carries.
The Warriors wrapped up a Wyoming Valley Conference title that season with an 8-0 record before playoffs started.
