Both Greater Pittston swimming teams started the season on the wrong foot with a pair of losses last week.
Against Holy Redeemer, the Pittston Area girls team fell, 116-70 on Wednesday. The Patriots failed to win a single event, but took home several second-place finishes.
Katrina Dillon finished second in both the 200 free and 500 free events. Erin Senese was second in the 50 free and the 100 fly. In the diving portion of the event, Pittston Area’s Abby Norwillo and Madi Osticco took home second and third, respectively.
The Patriots will not field a boys team this season, but do compete individually. Against Redeemer, Pittston Area’s Nick Petrucci was a winner in the 50 free with a time of 23.77. He also won the 100 free in a time of 54.31.
Against Hazleton Area on Tuesday, the Wyoming Area boys team fell victim to the Cougars 106-60. Ryan and Michael Murphy each picked up wins. Ryan won the 100 free, while brother Michael won the 100 breaststroke. Ryan finished second in the 200 free, while Michael finished second in the 200 individual medley.
On the girls side, Wyoming Area fell 123-65. The Warriors did not win a single event, but had a solid outing. Vicky Remley was second in the 50 free, while Hannah Hinkle added a second in the 100 free and a third in the 200 individual medley. Cassie Lockhart finished second in the 100 breaststroke.
