A trio of Old Forge football players and one Avoca resident were recently honored for their success during the 2015 season.

Cooper Califano, Armando Sallavanti and Joey Gutkowski were each named to the 2015 Pennsylvania Writers’ Class A all-state team. The Blue Devils, as a team, made it all the way to the PIAA Class A semifinals before falling to Bishop Guilfoylw, 43-13. The Blue Devils made it to the semifinals with wins over Wellsboro and Bishop McDevitt.

Avoca resident Thor Balavage, a Scranton Prep senior, was named to the Class AAA all-state team. Balavage was named as a defensive lineman. Prep’s season came to an end in late November with a loss to Saucon Valley.

Running back Califano finished the season with 245 carries for 1,575 yards and 28 rushing touchdowns. He added another 173 yards receiving and one touchdown. Against Bishop McDevitt in the PIAA playoffs, Califano carried the ball 29 times for 259 yards and six touchdowns.

Gutkowski, the Blue Devil quarterback, was selected to the team as an “athlete.” He finished the season by throwing for 1,293 yards and 12 touchdowns. On defense, Gutkowski also had 12 interceptions.

Sallavanti was named to the team as a linebacker.
