Swimming: Pittston Area, Wyoming Area each drop swim meets during week

Ryan and Michael Murphy have solidified themselves as two of the best sprinters in the Wyoming Valley Conference. Thanks to the twins, the Wyoming Area boys swimming team has made solid improvement over the past several seasons.

This past week, the Murphy duo helped the Wyoming Area boys to a close decision to Berwick on Thursday. Berwick edged Wyoming Area, 90-72. The girls also fell, 96-72.

Ryan took first place in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:22.30. Michael was a winner in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:38.27. In the 100 butterfly, Ryan finshed first with teammate Zach Lagrue finishing second. In the 400 freestyle relay, the team of Ryan, Michael, Lagrue and Austin Adler took first place with a time of 4:19.47.

In the girls meet, Wyoming Area’s 200 medley rely team of Cassandra Lockhart, Hannah Hinkle, Victoria Remley and Lila Donnelly took a win in a time of 2:39.98. In the 100 breaststroke, Sydni Johnson and Hinkle took first and second place, respectively. Johnson swam the race in a time of 1:39.71.

The 200 medley relay and Johnson’s win were the team’s only victories against Berwick. Wyoming Area, however, had several second- and third-place finishes.

GIRLS SWIMMING

Dallas 116, Pittston Area 71

Pittston Area’s girls swim team fell to Dallas, 116-71 on Thursday in the Back Mountain.

The Patriots finished the day with just won win. Pittston Area diver Abigail Norwillo scored 202.55 points to garner the win. The Patriots, however, turned in several second place finishes. Tara Johnson took second in the 50 free. Erin Senese was second in the 100 butterfly. Katrina Dillon finished second in the 500 freestyle event. Adison Hazlet was runner-up in the 100 breaststroke.

Dallas 137, Wyoming Area 49

Against Dallas on Tuesday, the Wyoming Area girls swim team took a hard loss, 137-49. The Warriors went without a first-place finish.

BOYS SWIMMING

Dallas 111, Wyoming Area 61

The Wyoming Area boys swimming team fell to Dallas on Tuesday.

Joe Earl was a winner in the diving event with 130.80 points. Ryan Murphy was a winner in the 100 fly with a time of 59.37. The 400 freestyle relay team of Ryan Murphy, Michael Murphy, Austin Alder and Zach Lagrue finished first with a time of 3:46.44.
