Pittston Area’s Kristen Baumes scored a game-high 23 points and added 11 rebounds, eight steals and nine assists in the Patriots’ 73-45 win over rival Wyoming Area in girls basketball action.
Baumes scored her 1,000th career point in the first half. Marina Castellino poured in 18 points, while Kristen Tranberg, Samantha Soy and Marissa Duffy each finished with six points.
Kylie Sheplock scored 19 points for Wyoming Area, while freshman Elyse Laneski had 10 points.
January 1996
Seton Catholic’s Laine Sheerer, Kelly Tracy and Melissa Reynolds combined for 61 points in the Lady Eagles’ 66-59 win over Wyoming Seminary in girls basketball action.
The win lifted Seton to a 4-2 division record and a tie for first place. Sheerer finished with 24 points, Tracy had 23 points and Reynolds finished with 14 points. Frances Hergan scored the other five points for Seton Catholic.
January 1986
Pittston Area’s boys basketball team rallied from a six-point first quarter deficit to take down Wyoming Area, 55-48.
The Patriots used a 12-3 second quarter surge to take control of the game. Matt Zaleski and Pat Walker each had 16 points for the Patriots, while Lou Sciandra tossed in 10. Wyoming Area’s Rob Cellas led all scorers with 23 points.
January 1976
The Wyoming Area wrestling team took a 40-14 win over Pittston Area thanks to five pins from the Warriors wrestlers.
The win marked the third time the Warriors have beaten the Patriots in the last four season. At one point, Pittston Area was ahead in the match, 11-7. From there, it was all Warriors.
Wyoming Area then recorded four straight pins. In all, the team had five pins: Greg Kiwak, Mark Farrell, Jim Bestider, Dom Nardone and Paul Rushefski.
