The Seton Catholic girls basketball team ran its win streak to 18 games with a 57-41 win over Wyoming Seminary in Wyoming Valley Conference Division 3 action.
The 16-point win was the closest margin of victory for the Eagles to start the conference season. The team’s average margin of victory was 34 points per game. Aniell Caprari scored a game-high 18 points despite missing some time due to an ankle injury. Krystina Durako scored 17 points in the Seton Catholic win.
Wyoming Area’s Megan Devers scored a career-high 21 points to help Wyoming Area pull an upset of GAR in girls basketball action in 1996.
The Warriors took the game, 57-56. GAR came into the game 5-2 in the WVC Division 2, while the Warriors were 1-5. Alyssa Chiampi scored 18 points, including a three-pointer. Carmie Argento had eight points, including two big baskets that helped hold of GAR’s fourth quarter run.
Pittston Area’s Ruth Tarnalicki and Cheryl Grady combined for 37 points in the Lady Patriots’ 57-34 win over Tunkhannock in conference girls basketball play.
The duo combined for 23 first-half points. Tarnalicki led Pittston Area with 19 points, while Grady had 17 points. Cindy Czerniakowski finished the game with 10 points.
Wyoming Area’s girls basketball team took down arch-rival Pittston Area, 53-39. The game, however, was closer than the final score indicates.
Warrior Sandy Selenski led all scorers with 17 points. Denise Marianacci had 12 points and Becky Edmunds finished the game with 10 points. Pittston Area’s Debbie Adrian scored 11 points while Michelle Cordora had 10 points.
