April 2006

The Wyoming Area boys tennis team shut out Seton Catholic, 5-0, to earn its first win of the 2006 season.

Chris Wash took down Seton’s Matt Panzitta, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 singles. Also picking up singles wins were Marco Stallone and Joe O’Brien. The teams of Luke Brady and Mike Mattei, along with Ricky Missett and Anna Stieler, each won the doubles matches.

April 1996

Wyoming Area and Pittston Area each won boys tennis matches against Seton Catholic and Coughlin, respectively.

The Warriors took care of Seton, 5-2, and earned singles wins from Kris Hummer, Bert Chase, Jason Bruno and Jason Bartoli. Bruno and Wall also picked up a singles win for the Warriors.

Pittston Area’s Steven Rubin, Bucky Insognia, Dave Kolmansperger and John Roberts swept Coughlin in singles play en route to a 7-0 win.

April 1986

The Greater Pittston YMCA team completed the 1985-86 season in the NEPA Age Group Swim League Championships. The swimmers were awarded 12 heat ribbons and the following trophies: four sixth place, five fourth place, three third place and two second place.

Members of the team were: Nicole Linskey, Heather Haddow, Meredith Melvin, Lynn Benfante, Vicki Podwika, Mike Musloski, Jamie Dennis, Marci Maisano, Krista Renfer, Ryan Maisano, Amber Soska, Matt Podwika, Lisa Dennis, Mark Rogers, Laura Dennis, Robyn Babcock, Carla Rogers, Nicole Paruslis, Sheila Richards, Chris Walters, Dianne Walters, Brunee Ferretti, Missy Piccillo, Chris Bartashunas, Lisa Bartashunas and Clancy Cash.

The team was coached by Debbie Gianfarcaro.

April 1976

St. John’s Karen Mikita was awarded the Most Valuable Player of the West team at the annual East-West Basketball All-Star Classic held at King’s College.

Mikita scored a game-high 22 points in a 67-50 win over the East. Other local participants in the game were Anne Tierney and Sue Brown from St. John’s, Pittston Area’s Michelle Cadora and Wyoming Area’s Denise Marianacci.
