Wyoming Area’s baseball team dispatched Pittston Area, 7-4, to improve to 2-0 on the young season.
Nick Peck hit a bases-loaded single as part of a four-run fifth inning. Wyoming Area starting pitcher Mike Peterson pitched 6.2 innings, giving way to Lou Falzone who got a strike out to to end the game.
Pittston Area scored in the first inning on a sacrifice fly from Jake Buczynski.
Pittston Area’s John Dessoye won three individual events — the 100, 200 and long jump — and anchored the winning 4×100 against Meyers in a split meet. The Patriots beat GAR, 100-42, while falling to Meyers, 80-70.
John’s brother, Matt, was also on the 4×100 relay team and took first in the high jump. Mike Healey was a double winner for PA against GAR, taking the 400 and 800 runs.
Three Pittston Area football players accepted grants to continue their athletic careers at Millersville University and Lock Haven University.
Tony Balavage, an offensive lineman, chose Millersville and was recruited by former PA player Stan Kanacinski. Mike Lazevnick and Eric Lizka, two way starters, signed with Lock Haven.
The 1985 Pittston Area team finished 9-3 and coach Bob Barbieri said, “They certainly played a large part in the success we enjoyed last season.”
The Pittston Area eighth grade basketball won the Pittston Area Booster Club Tournament following the 1975-76 season. The team was coached by Bob Zyblycki and Jim Timlin.
