GP Legion signups April 24
HUGHESTOWN — Players interested in playing baseball for Greater Pittston American Legion can sign up from 10 to 11 a.m. on Sunday, April 24 in the baseball locker room at the Pittston Area Primary Center fields.
Players must live in the following areas: Exeter, Duryea, Exeter Township, Hughestown, Pittston City, West Pittston, West Wyoming, Wyoming or Pittston Township (west of the Pittston Bypass). Plains Legion tryouts April 24
PLAINS TWP. — Plains American Legion Baseball will conduct tryouts for this year’s team from on Sunday, April 24 at Hilldale. The junior team will tryout from 2 to 4 p.m., while the seniors will be from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Any player between the ages of 13-19 from Plains, Laflin, Bear Creek, Parsons, Miners Mills, East End, Avoca, Dupont, Jenkins Township, and Pittston Township (east of the Pittston Bypass) is eligible to try out. ELLL Opening Day April 30
EXETER — The Exeter Lions Little League Opening Day Parade will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 30. The parade route will start at the borough building and proceed south on Wyoming Avenue to Barber Street and end at the Little League field for opening ceremonies.
Former Major League Baseball pitcher Andy Ashby will throw out the first pitch, with Jacqueline Mathis Knuth singing the national anthem. There will be raffles, bake sale items, special concession stand foods and more.
WA field hockey holding bingo
EXETER — Wyoming Area Field Hockey Parents Association will be hosting its annual bingo from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 24 at the secondary center cafeteria.
The doors open at noon and cost for tickets is $20 per person, which includes 20 bingo games.
There will also be a silent auction and 50/50 raffle, plus food and beverages.
Lady Birds Bowling League meets April 27
WEST PITTSTON — A reorganization meeting of the Lady Birds Bowling League will be held at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, at Agolino’s Restaurant. The Tweety Birds were the 2015-2016 season champions. Team members Barbara Slusser, Marlene Mikiewicz, Judy Krifka and Debbie Anzalone will receive awards at the meeting.
Tigue basketball tournament May 14
PITTSTON — The Greater Pittston YMCA will host the first Honorable Thomas Tigue Memorial 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament on Saturday, May 14. Boys and girls in first through fourth grades will compete for the 3-on-3 championship.
The tournament will consist of eight teams of boys and girls from each grade playing eight-minute games against each other. The cost is $30 to register a team of four players, all must be in the same grade. Any school district is welcome to play.

ADLL meeting May 15
AVOCA — The Avoca/Dupont Little League will hold its monthly meeting at 6 p.m. Sunday, May 15 in the Avoca Borough Building. In addition to regular league business, the club will seek feedback on the opening day festivities as well as upcoming fundraisers.
Volunteers are being accepted for all league events. Bingo tickets will be sold during the meeting. The meeting is open to the public.
St. Mary’s Classic set for May 1
TAYLOR — The Queen of the Apostles Parish will host its ninth annual St. Mary’s Classic golf tournament Sunday, May 1, at the Pine Hills Country Club, 140 S. Keyser Ave., Taylor. Registration for the tournament begins at noon with a shotgun start at 1 p.m.
The format is captain and crew. Singles will be placed on a team. The cost is $80 per golfer and includes prizes and a dinner following the tournament at the parish hall, 742 Spring Street, Avoca. There are also several types of sponsorships available. For more information call 570-457-3412.
ADLL bingo June 5
AVOCA — The Avoca/Dupont Little League will hold a fundraising bingo event at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 5 at the Queen of the Apostles Church Hall. Doors will open at 12:30 p.m.
The price is $20 and includes 20 games, including specials. Seating is limited to the first 150 people. The theme is a mystery gift card bingo and each prize will be worth at least $50. Prizes will include gift cards to many local restaurants, stores and golf courses. The special game prizes are $100 cash, an overnight stay at the Marriott-Montage, an overnight stay for four at Kalahari, and four one-day hopper passes to Disney World in Florida.
There will also be a 50-50 drawing and basket raffles. Food and non-alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase. All proceeds will go toward improving the players’ experience. St. Joseph Marello golf tourney is June 12
WILKES-BARRE — The 22nd annual St. Joseph Marello Parish golf tournament is set for Sunday, June 12 at the Wilkes-Barre Municipal Golf Course with a tee time of 8 a.m. The fee is $80 per golfer which includes golf, cart, dinner after the tournament and a variety of prizes.
Registration forms are now available on line at www.sjm-kofc.org/golf and paper applications will be available in the church’s vestibule.
