SUSCON — The Elm Street Sportsmen’s Club will hold a meeting at 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 11 at its club house in Suscon. John Lizak will preside.

PA hockey meeting Sept. 12

AVOCA — The Pittston Area Ice Hockey Association will hold a parents’ meeting at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 12 at The Tipsy Turtle Airport Pub, 28 Concorde Drive.

Registration for the upcoming season will take place at the meeting for returning as well as new players. New players are welcome on both the JV and varsity teams.

Parents of anyone in grades 7-12 interested in joining the Pittston Area Ice Hockey Association can attend.

PA to honor first football team

YATESVILLE — Pittston Area School District will honor its first high school football team and members of the first graduating class, the Class of 1967, at the homecoming game on Friday, Sept. 16 at Charley Trippi Stadium.

The first Patriot team took the field 50 years ago in September 1966. All members of the 1966 PA football team and members of the Class of ‘67 are invited to the game, along with all PA football players, cheerleaders, majorettes, and homecoming queens over the past 50 years.

Game time is 7 p.m. A pre-game reception will begin at 5:30 p.m.

YMCA hosting adult 3-on-3 tourney

PITTSTON — The Thomas Tigue Memorial 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament for men and women age 18 and older will be held Saturday, Sept. 17 and Sunday, Sept. 18 at the Greater Pittston YMCA.

Cost is $40 per team, and can be made up of 3 or 4 players. The tournament will be double elimination. Deadline to register is Saturday, Sept. 10. For more information contact Programming Director Brandon Hampton at 570-655-2255, ext. 103.

Kickball tournament will be Sept. 24

EXETER – The “Save Our Courts” kickball tournament fundraiser to help fund the construction of new tennis courts for Wyoming Area will be held at 9 a.m. Satuday, Sept. 24, with a rain date of Sunday, Sept. 25, at the Wyoming little league fields.

It will be a double elimination with a one-hour game limit, 10 run mercy rule, three outs end an inning/forced tag rule/no sliding or hitting runner with ball. Batters are limited to three kicks.

Award will be given to the winners and runner-up.

Team size is from 9-11 players for ages 7 and up. The cost is either $10 per player or a Team Sponsorship of $200 per team.

There will also be basket raffles, 50/50 and food concessions.

A donation of $200 and up will get a business name on a banner that will be hung at the tennis courts across from Wyoming Area Stadium and a Good Samaritan plaque to hang at said business.

WA to host wrestling clinic Oct. 1

EXETER — Wyoming Area Wrestling Club will sponsor a fall wrestling clinic, for Wyoming Area students only, from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1 at the Wyoming Area gymnasium.

All grades, new and returning wrestlers welcome. No experience needed. There will be demonstrations, live wrestling and a chance to meet new coaching staff and instruction on how wrestling improves coordination, discipline, attitude, physical fitness, endurance and self-confidence.

Signups for the elementary team is on the day of the clinic and will be held also from 6 to 7 p.m. Oct. 3.

Clinic is free, but cost for the season is $75 per wrestler, plus fundraiser, and each additional family wrestler is $25. Birth certificate is required at sign up.

Intramural program set at WAC

EXETER — The Wyoming Area Catholic Intramural Sports Program will run until Friday, Oct. 28. The programs offered beginning the first week will be boys and girls flag football and volleyball. Students in grades 4-8 are eligible to participate.

Boys flag football will be held from 3 to 4 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday, with the final game on Thursday, Oct. 27. Girls flag football will be held from 3 to 4 p.m. on Monday and Wednesday, with the final game on Wednesday, Oct. 26. Volleyball will be held from 3 to 4 p.m. on Friday, with the final game Friday, Oct. 28.

Gym teacher Jerry Renfer will be the coach of all sports.

Sports club attending PSU games

HUGHESTOWN — The Hughestown Sports Club will attend all Penn State home games this season.

Transportation is available to both club members and anyone interested in attending home games. A few season tickets are available as well as individual tickets.
