HANOVER TWP. — Three Greater Pittston golfers punched their tickets to the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association District 2 individual championships with their performances Monday at Wyoming Valley Country Club.

In the pre-district tournament, Pittston Area’s Allie Craig fired an 88 and picked up the title in the Class 3A tournament. Craig, a junior, will be making an appearance at the district championships for the third time in her career. She has yet to qualify for the regional tournament.

The district championships are scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 11 at Elmhurst Country Club. Finishing in the top-3 at Elmhurst in Class 3A will punch Craig’s ticket to the regional tournament.

For Wyoming Area, two golfers made the cut at Wyoming Valley Country Club. But it wasn’t easy for Nik Athmann and Cole Coolbaugh.

Both Wyoming Area golfers shot 85 and were in a four-way tie for the final two playoff spots. Athmann and Cole advanced to districts by parring the first playoff hole and knocking out Crestwood’s Mike Golden and Hazleton Area’s Matt Boretski. All four shot a round of 85 to advance to the extra hole.

The first six at Elmhurst will qualify for the regional tournament.
