Local sports roundup: Valley West proves too much for Wyoming Area’s boys soccer team

WYOMING — Wyoming Valley West’s Jake Gurtis left his mark with four goals and an assist as the Spartans rolled past Wyoming Area 11-0 in a boys soccer game Thursday.

Joyssen Gonzalez also added a hat trick and an assist in a winning effort. Wyoming Area goalkeeper Jason Mapes made a game-high seven saves.

Dallas 7,

Pittston Area 0

Dallas put on an offensive clinic in a shutout win over Pittston Area Thursday.

The Mountaineers registered 40 shots. Dallas’ Evan McClain and Zach Holthaus each scored a pair of goals in the win.

Pittston Area goalie Kyle Mildjeski made a game-high 20 saves.

Crestwood 10,

Pittston Area 1

Senior Kyle Gegaris, scored four goals and assisted on another, in the Comets’ win over Pittston Area Wednesday.

Crestwood’s Hubert Herrera added a hat trick while Max Gariano scored a pair of second-half goals in a winning effort. Blake Brown scored Pittston Area’s lone goal.

Coughlin 6,

Wyoming Area 0

Matt Davison had a hat trick and David Cortez scored two goals and had three assists to spark the Crusaders Monday.

George Oko added two assists and David Kosik saved both shots against him in the shutout. Stanley Moderski made eight saves for Wyoming Area.

GIRLS SOCCER

Dallas 4,

Pittston Area 0

Taryn Ashby made seven saves for the Patriots in a loss to Dallas Thursday. Holly Holthaus figured in on three goals, scoring two and assisting on another.

FIELD HOCKEY

Crestwood 2,

Pittston Area 0

Sarah Richards and Jordan Olenginski scored first-half goals and the Comets held Pittston Area to just three shots as Crestwood controlled the Patriots Wednesday.

Valley West 3,

Wyoming Area 1

Lauren Parente scored a goal to lead Wyoming Area in a loss to Wyoming Valley West just five minutes in. From there, Valley West scored the next two goals for the win.

Wyoming Seminary 7,

Wyoming Area 0

Wyoming Area fell to Wyoming Seminary in a Wyoming Valley Conference matchup Monday.
