The Pittston Area girls volleyball team picked up two wins during the week to improve to 8-5 on the season.

On Thursday, Pittston Area swept Coughlin behind the serving of Portia Weidlich. The Patriots’ first win of the week came in the form of a 3-2 win over MMI Prep on Monday.

Weidlich paced Pittston Area to a 25-15, 25-20, 25-6 sweep over the Crusaders. She registered 19 services points, seven aces and six kills in the win. Haley Lewis pitched in with 11 service points and four aces, while Kirsten Durling added 18 assists and four aces.

In the win over MMI Prep, the Patriots rallied all the way back from 2-0 down to beat the Preppers 18-25, 20-25, 25-22, 25-21, 15-6.

Helping lead the comeback were (18 kills), Lewis (16 service points) and Emily O’Brien (11 service points, eight kills).

Wyoming Area 0

The Bulldogs earned a 25-12, 25-22, 25-20 sweep behind Madison Traugh (13 kills, six digs), Damaris Ayala (22 assists, three kills, six digs) and Elizabeth Plyler (five kills, four blocks) Thursday.

Wyoming Area was led by Monica Henderson, who tallied three aces and five kills, and Jenna Chackan, who registered three kills and nine assists. Olivia Astolfi added a pair of aces and 15 digs.

North Pocono 3,

Wyoming Area 2

Wyoming Area’s Brandi Sorokin led her team with 12 kills in a close loss to North Pocono Tuesday. Game scores were 19-25, 25-21, 25-18, 23-25, 15-10.

The Warriors won the first set, 25-19, before surrendering the second and third to North Pocono. A close matchup in the fourth led to the deciding game, which the Trojans won 15-10.

The two teams have just a handful of games left this season. Pittston Area will host Meyers on Monday, while Wyoming Area will travel to MMI Prep.
