The respective boys soccer seasons in Greater Pittston came to an end Monday in the district playoffs.

In the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association District 2 Class 3A championships, Pittston Area and Wyoming Are each lost first round games Monday. The Patriots fell to Wyoming Valley West, 7-0, while the Warriors lost at North Pocono 9-2.

Wyoming Area came into Monday’s game with the Trojans as the No. 11 seed, taking on the No. 6 seed. The Warriors entered the playoffs with just two wins on the season.

In the playoff game with North Pocono, the Warriors allowed three first-half goals prior to Casey Orlando scoring for Wyoming Area in the 24th minute. Orlando scored on a penalty kick. The Trojans scored another three goals before the Warriors got back on the board.

Damian Bronsburg scored on an assist from Ryan Shuleski just before halftime, and trailed 4-2. The Trojans scored five second half goals to eliminate Wyoming Area from the playoffs. The Warriors were outshot 34-10. Ryan Carter did his best in goal and made 22 saves.

At Wyoming Valley West, the No. 12 seed Patriots were still looking for their first win on the season. Unfortunately, Jake Gurtis’ hat trick for the Spartans led to a 7-0 win.

The Patriots got just three shots on goal in the shutout, while Valley West took 47 shots toward a pair of Pittston Area keepers. Shane Syms and Jordan Powers combined for 16 saves in the elimination game.
