Junior Ivan Balavage clinched the first state medal in Scranton Prep wrestling history March 10, then went out on the final day of the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Championships and added one more win.

Balavage finished seventh in the state at 195 pounds in Class 2A with an 8-4 win over Greenville’s Jacob McMaster in his final bout at the Giant Center in Hershey March 11.

“It’s important to finish with a win because it helps me focus on what I need to do to get back here,” Balavage told the Times Leader.

Balavage finished 35-5 on the season with 17 pins and is 93-22 for his career with 55 pins. He reached the District 2 final for the second straight year, winning his first title.
