Tyler McGarry finished as runner-up in the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom Conference men’s golf championships for the second straight year.

McGarry, a sophomore who graduated from Pittston Area High School, shot a second-round 75 and a 36-hole total of 152 at Hershey Country Club to finish three strokes behind Chandler Longfellow from Manhattanville.

Zach Mulhern, a sophomore who graduated from Wyoming Area High School, also finished in the top half of the field.

Mulhern opened with a 77 and finished the two-day event with 163. He placed 15th out of 40 individuals while joining McGarry in helping Misericordia to a fourth-place finish out of eight teams.

Manhattanville won with a 626. Misericordia was fourth with 657.

Greater Pittston players filled three of the five lineup spots for the Cougars at the conference championships.

Jacob Wysocki, a junior who graduated from Wyoming Area High School, finished 34th with a pair of 93s.

McGarry moved up after hitting the halfway point in the tournament in a sixth-place tie.

The first MAC Freedom runner-up finish by McGarry, in 2016, helped him earn conference Rookie of the Year honors. He repeated as a first-team MAC Freedom all-star this season.

Earlier this spring, McGarry shot 1-under-par, 70 in the second round of the National Collegiate Invitational at Glenmaura National in Moosic to finish sixth.

McGarry was consistently the top finisher for Misericordia throughout the team’s fall and spring seasons.
