Wyoming Area’s Sarah Holweg has been named the Wyoming Valley Conference Division 2 co-Player of the Year by the WVC Coaches Association.
Holweg, a sophomore, led the league with 34 three-pointers during the WVC regular season and averaged 20.6 points per game during those games. Throughout the season, Holweg had 51 threes and averaged 17 points per contest. She contributed another 4.6 and 5.2 rebounds per game.
Hanover Area’s Asdone Hooper shared the honors with the Wyoming Area sophomore.
Holweg had games of 30-plus points three times this season, including two in her last four games. She scored a season- and career-high 34 points against Hanover Area on Feb. 3. In that game she made nine three-pointers.
In Division 3, Pittston Area junior Taryn Ashby was named to the First Team. In 21 games this season, Ashby averaged 11.4 points per game and scored a total of 239 points. She was third in the entire Wyoming Valley Conference in free-throw shooting. She shot 75 percent from the charity stripe this year with a total of 85 made free throws.
Wyoming Area’s Katie Wolfgang was named to the First Team in Division 2. Wolfgang, who has missed several games at the end of the season with a broken wrist, was 15th in WVC scoring, averaging 12.7 points in her 17 games. Lydia Edwards was named to the Second Team.
Pittston Area’s Marley O’Brien was named to the Second Team in Division 1, while teammate Kirsten Durling was named to the Third Team.
