Langan inducted to Phi Betta Kappa

BALTIMORE, Md. — Julie Langan, a Jenkins Township resident and a senior psychology major at Loyola University, was recently inducted into the Epsilon of Maryland Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa. This honor society is the United States’ oldest and most respected honorary society.

Her induction ceremony took place in the Alumni Chapel on the campus of Loyola University on April 10. Earlier that day, Langan received additional distinction at a ceremony at Loyola University honoring dean’s list students. She received a certificate acknowledging her status as a dean’s list student during the 2014-15 academic year. During that year, Langan attained a 4.0 in each of the semesters.

These award ceremonies closed out a weekend, which began when Langan was honored along with other recipients at a scholarship dinner. Langan was awarded an endowed scholarship from the Alice M. Lage Memorial Fund. This scholarship is awarded to talented and qualified undergraduate students at Loyola University.

In between these academic celebrations, Langan traveled to Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana to take part in the Counseling Psychology Great Lakes Conference from April 8-9. At the conference, in conjunction with Michiko Iwasaki Ph.D., Langan presented her research in a poster entitled “Counseling Psychologists as Change Agent in the Battle with Synthetic Cannabis Use.”

Langan is a 2012 graduate from Scranton Prep and the daughter of Jerry and Theresa Langan, Jenkins Township.
