DURYEA — The Phoenix Performing Arts Centre presents “Billy Elliot: the Musical” every Friday and Saturday from May 12 to May 27, including a Sunday matinee on May 21.

Show times are 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. May 21.

“Billy Elliot: the Musical” is based on the 2000 film “Billy Elliot” that revolves around motherless Billy, who trades boxing gloves for ballet shoes. The story of his personal struggle and fulfillment are balanced against a counter-story of family and community strife caused by the UK miners’ strike (1984-1985) in County Durham, in North Eastern England.

General admission is $12 per person and reservations may be made by calling the theatre at 570-457-3589 or online at www.phoenixpac.vpweb.com.
