PITTSTON — The Greater Pittston YMCA Annual Community Awards Dinner has been set and ready for 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, at The Banks Waterfront. It is sponsored by Discover NEPA.

Jeremy Popiel, Greater Pittston YMCA director, is pleased to announce the award recipients for 2024.

The Community Leader of the Year Award is PA Secretary of Transportation and Avoca native, Michael B. Carroll.

The Corporate Distinction Award winner is the Adonizio Funeral Home Inc.

Scott Verdine earned the Sam Milazzo Volunteer of the Year Award.

This year’s Spirit of the Community Award goes to Tony Callaio.

Molly Fetchko and Kevin Wiedl are the James and Jean Yates Youth Leadership Award recipients.

“This event highlights the significance of unity within Greater Pittston, fostering new relationships and networks that strengthen the community,” Popiel said. “By honoring these remarkable individuals, the YMCA aims to acknowledge their unwavering commitment and inspire others to engage in efforts that enhance the Greater Pittston community.”

Susan Jolly will offer welcome notes with additional comments by Jeremy Popiel.

City of Pittston Mayor Michael Lombardo will serve as Master of Ceremonies for the evening.

The night will feature heavy-handed passed hors d’oeuvres and carving stations.

“The evening will serve as an opportunity to reflect on the collective impact that can be achieved when individuals put the community first,” Popiel added. “Celebrating the invaluable contributions of these community leaders plays a crucial role in fulfilling the YMCA’s mission.”
