Wyoming Area splits its final two regular-season girls basketball games.
The Lady Warriors finished 4-8 for fifth place in the seven-team Wyoming Valley Conference Division 2. They are also fifth in District 2 Class 4A where they are almost certain to open with a quarterfinal game at fourth-seeded Berwick.
Both Berwick and Wyoming Area finished 6-16.
Wyoming Area 53, Hanover Area 33
Krea Bonita scored a game-high 15 points and Addison Gaylord led a second-quarter surge that put Wyoming Area in the lead for good on the way to Monday’s road victory.
Bonita led three Lady Warriors who scored in double figures. Gaylord added 14 points while Shannon Kearns had 11.
Brenna Slusser led Hanover Area with 11 points.
The Lady Hawkeyes scored the game’s first six points and led most of the first 10½ minutes.
Hanover Area led 14-10 after one quarter, but Gaylord forced the first tie at 14-14 on two free throws with 5:57 left in the half. Gaylord made another free throw to put Wyoming Area in the lead 36 seconds later as part of a stretch in which she scored six points in 1:29.
After Hanover Area briefly regained the lead, Wyoming Area closed the second quarter with a 9-4 edge over the final 4½ minutes for a 24-21 halftime lead.
Wyoming Area then dominated the second half to break the game open.
Morgan Slusser, who led Wyoming Area in rebounds with 10, and Kearns scored five points each in the third quarter while Bonita added four.
The Lady Warriors scored the first nine points and last seven of the quarter to open a 40-23 lead.
Wyoming Seminary 45, Wyoming Area 12
Ella Stambaugh scored 14 points and Lexy Lichenstein added 10 Wednesday as Wyoming Seminary spoiled Wyoming Area’s last home game of the season with a rout in the Division 2 finale.
The Blue Knights scored the last seven points of the first quarter and first eight of second to open a 19-1 lead.
Krea Bonita led Wyoming Area with nine points and four rebounds.
