Alexa Gasek hit a grand slam and tossed a shutout Saturday as Wyoming Area defeated host Dunmore 13-0 in a five-inning, non-league softball game.

The Lady Warriors scored 10 times in the top of the first with Gasek driving in half the runs that she would have to work with before throwing her first pitch.

Gasek doubled in the first run with one out, then Wyoming Area batted around and she capped the first-inning scoring with a two-out grand slam.

From there, Gasek tossed a one-hitter with just one walk while striking out nine.

Allison Layland went 2-for-2 with two doubles, two stolen bases, two runs and three triples.

Kaia Brown joined Gasek and Layland with two hits and also drove in two runs.

Gasek, Layland, Addison Gaylord, Josie Kivak and Aubrey Lewis each scored twice. Lewis had a double.

The second win of the week improved Wyoming Area to 2-1 on the season.

Pittston Area 9, Riverside 7

Winning pitcher Samantha Herbert had a triple and home run Saturday afternoon when Pittston Area defeated visiting Riverside in a non-league game.

The Lady Patriots improved to 2-0.

Pittston Area took the lead with three runs in the third, but fell behind briefly in the fifth when both teams scored four times.

The Lady Patriots took a 9-4 lead into the seventh inning.

Marina Antal homered and finished with two hits, two runs and two RBI.

Gabby Roman tripled, singled and scored twice.

Lili Hintze scored three runs.

Wyoming Area 5, Crestwood 2

Wyoming Area scored four runs in the top of the first in Tuesday’s non-league game and held on for the win at Crestwood when Alexa Gasek kept the Lady Comets scoreless over the last four innings.

The Lady Warriors led 5-0 after 1½ innings before Crestwood scored once each in the second and third innings.

Crestwood managed nine hits, but Gasek did not walk a batter and struck out three while going the distance.

Gasek was also the only Wyoming Area batter with two hits.

Kaia Brown, Renee Haddock and Gasek all had doubles. Brown drove in two runs.
