Both Greater Pittston American Legion Baseball teams finished 11-6 and tied for third in the final Wyoming Valley League regular-season standings.

Those regular-season efforts were enough to place each team in the playoffs.

Greater Pittston tied Stripes & Strikes from Hazleton for third in the Senior League, behind Mountain Post and Swoyersville, which tied for first at 15-2.

The top six teams advanced to the league playoffs at Greater Pittston’s home field in Hughestown.

The playoffs were scheduled to begin Friday and continue through Monday.

Greater Pittston tied Back Mountain for third in the Youth Legion standings. Swoyersville was first 16-1, followed by Stripes & Strikes at 13-4.

The playoffs are already underway at Mountain Post.

Greater Pittston split its first two playoff games, shutting out Mountain Post, 2-0, Wednesday, then falling to Stripes & Strikes, 6-3, Thursday. It was scheduled to face Plains/Wilkes-Barre in an elimination game Friday.

Greater Pittston went 1-2 in games on three straight days to wrap up the Senior regular season.

Mountain Post defeated Greater Pittston, 9-2 and 13-2, July 7 and 9.

In between, Greater Pittston edged Hazleton, 1-0, Monday in the completion of a suspended game.

Hunter Ralston got the win and Toby Hallman picked up the save.

Brandon Constantino scored the game’s only run.

Josh Baiera had the only Greater Pittston hit.

Greater Pittston had also defeated Plains/Wilkes-Barre, 2-1, July 5.

Dylan Melberger worked the first four innings and Matt Sorick went the last three on the mound.

Jimmie Dillon had a triple and Chase Yochem a double in the win.
