Wyoming Area lineman Sammy Solomon has been selected to play defensive tackle for the East in the Pennsylvania State Football Coaches Association East-West All-Star Game May 24 in Harrisburg.

Rosters for the game were announced Wednesday.

Solomon was an all-state selection for his play as a two-way lineman in Wyoming Area’s Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association state Class 3A championship season.

The game will be played at 2 p.m. at Landis Field, home of Central Dauphin High School.

For the first time this season, the game will be played in conjunction with the Big 33 Football Classic in which Pennsylvania’s top 33 available players will take on a similar team from Maryland the next day.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Pittston Area’s Brennan Higgins was a first-team choice in Division 1 when the Wyoming Valley Conference coaches made their all-star selections.

J.J. Walsh was picked for the second team and Logan Booth made the third team.

Wyoming Area’s Sammy Solomon was a third-team selection in Division 2.

The coaches also released the lineups for the 51st annual George P. Moses Senior All-Star Classic March 27 at Holy Redeemer.

Higgins, Booth, Andrew Krawczyk and Mike George were named to the team coached by Tunkhannock’s Spencer Lunger, along with Solomon and Cole Coolbaugh from Wyoming Area.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Wyoming Area’s Cassidy Orzel was selected as a first-team Division 2 all-star by WVC coaches.

Teammate Nicole Silinskie made the third team.

Pittston Area’s Jada Sharp was named to the third team in Division 1.
