HUGHESTOWN — The Pittston Area Primary Center will hold a ceremony to commemorate the renaming of the school as the Martin F. Quinn Primary Center at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 19 at the school, 210 Rock St.
The building will be renamed after longtime and current Pittston Area School Board member, Martin F. Quinn.
Quinn has served the community for 26 years as a member of the Pittston Area School Board and is actively involved in local clubs and political organizations. He is a sustaining member of the Greater Pittston Friendly Sons of St. Patrick and is also a charter member of Wolfe Tone Luzerne County Division 1, Ancient Order of Hibernians. He is a member of President John F. Kennedy Council No. 372, Knights of Columbus and is Fourth Degree Assembly.
He is a board member of the Parking Authority of the City of Pittston and active with the Third District Democrats, serving many years as a committeeman in his ward. He is a social member of the Polish Club in Dupont, the West Side Social Club in Avoca and the Pittston Township Italian Club. He is a member of Our Lady of the Eucharist Parish in Pittston.
Quinn resides in Pittston with his wife Barbara and has three sons — Mitch and wife Kim, Michael and wife Tara, and Brian and wife Denise. The couple has five grandchildren — Zach, Katie, Kearney, Samantha and Jake.
Pittston Area Superintendent Kevin Booth will serve as Master of Ceremonies at the event. Speakers will include state Rep. Michael Carroll, Pittston School Board President Kent Bratlee, former Pittston Area School Board Member Anthony Guariglia and Mitch Quinn.
Light refreshments will be served.
